One Way Window Film
One Way Film, or Mirror Window Film is in fact a solar reflective film designed to ward off the sun's glare and heat. Due to it's reflective quality, the film helps in preventing the view in, from the outside, whilst allowing you to see out, from the inside. The film works with the difference of light level between the outside and the inside. As a result, the film will not offer privacy at night, as the outside will be darker than the inside.
Here are a few things you need to know:
One way privacy film only works during daytime hours, and works in reverse at night.
The film is tinted and as such will darken the room (more or less depending on the grade).
The dark grade is the most effective for privacy.
The light grade is the least effective for privacy.
The films are not suitable for all types of glass.
Putting the film on the reverse side of the glass will not change its properties.
Please also note that north facing windows, or windows underneath a wide parapet will not lend themselves to this film as they tend to receive less direct sunlight, therefore negating the reflective effect.
For 24 hour privacy, your only option which is guaranteed to work is frosted film. You might not have to frost the whole window. Frosting the bottom half of a bay window is more than adequate.
For internal partitions, it's a bit more complicated. You'll need to apply a dark exterior reflective film on a the outside of the room you want privacy from, and a dark tinted film on the inside of the room you want privacy in. Both films are available from our solar range of films.

If you are planning to install this film on a double glazed unit, make sure the glass is toughened. If it is, it will have a kite mark in one of the corners.
The light reflective film will allow 50% of light through, and is 1.5 m wide. Please note that his film is not as effective for privacy purposes as the Dark and Medium .
It can be used on any glass surface, including non toughened double glazed units.
